Arsenal had a hugely successful summer transfer window, transforming £45 million into the signings of Kieran Tierney, Dani Ceballos and Nicolas Pepe. Fans are excited about what this season has in store for the club.
However, which of the new signings will have the biggest impact?
These four players are creating a lot of buzz for the team, with fans eager to see what they can bring to the pitch.
The defence is often branded the Achilles heel of this Arsenal team. Unai Emery’s desperation to resolve those problems is entirely understandable. The Gunners conceded 50 league goals in both of the last two campaigns and must work on this area to close on the top of the table.
David Luiz, signed from Chelsea for £8m, is a direct replacement for Laurent Koscielny. Known for his defensive strength, the 32-year-old is an impressive addition to the squad.
Tierney arrived from Celtic on deadline day after a summer-long chase, signing a five-year contract at the Emirates. Celtic rejected Arsenal’s two opening bids for the 22-year-old during the summer. But with two hours of the transfer window remaining, the Bhoys gave in to the Gunner’s advances; the deal was done.
A double-hernia injury rules Tierney out for the first two months of the season. However, Emery stated that his arrival at the club increases Arsenal’s defensive options; Tierney’sd best was yet to come.
Ceballos is the only new midfield arrival this summer, joining the team on loan from Real Madrid for this season. It will be interesting to see how Emery uses the Spain international.
One thing is for sure – the talented player is able to take on a number of roles behind the forward line, so he’s sure to be a big asset to the squad and comes with a lot of hype.
He became an instant hit with fans following his performance at Newcastle. After kicking the ball into touch to waste time, he demanded the referee blow his whistle; it was dark arts of the highest order.
For a time, it seemed as though Wilfried Zaha would be bolstering the attack for the Gunners, but when their bid of £40m was knocked back by Crystal Palace, it actually wound up being his international teammate who joined the squad for a club-record fee of £72m.
Pepe is also a promising scorer, with football betting tips already saying he will net a good amount of goals.
The Ivory Coast star has the ability to operate on the right wing or as forward, so it’s highly likely that Emery will use him as part of a front three, with Aubameyang and Lacazette.
Arsenal spent all of the summer transfer window searching for the right person to improve the supply line. Pepe seems to be the ideal person for the job.
