It was an early sign that the television companies and football in general, cared little about supporters. Surprisingly so since a quarter of a century ago, television income was only just becoming a key revenue stream for the clubs. In most cases – certainly for big clubs – ticket receipts still accounted for over half of their income.

ITV though had the bug. Arsenal’s trip to Liverpool two years earlier had seen tragic circumstances hand English club football what remains its’ most iconic moment. I was about to set the scene but you don’t need me to; it’s seared into your brains.

Different decision but the same result – title win for the Gunners! And of course ‘Pool have never won the title since which for anyone growing up in the seventies and early eighties with southern ‘Pool fans is a wonderful thing.

    Amen Andy.
Odd that there’s so many fewer now. How I hope for the same for Manure.
